The Hobart and William Smith Colleges cross country teams travel to Vassar College's Farm & Ecological Preserve in Poughkeepsie, New York, this weekend to compete for Liberty League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The women's 6-kilometer race will begin at noon with the men's 8-kilometer race to follow at 1 p.m.
The Herons are looking to improve upon their seventh place finish in last year's championship hosted in Saratoga Springs. Junior
Ainsley Woods has paced the Herons for the majority of the season. She logged a team-best 6k time of 23:55.4 at the Mike Woods Invitational earlier this month. Seniors
Abby Palin and
Gillian Parrett will look to utilize their championship race experience to steer the Herons down the course.
On the men's side, Hobart has been led by senior
Jonathan Garcia. He has posted 8k times in the 28-minute range all season with his best stopping the clock at 28:01.8 at the CCOC Championships held at Seneca Lake State Park on Oct. 15. Seniors
Ian Albreski and
Jason Montecalvo along with junior
Henry Loudon and sophomore Sam Freudenburg will provide invaluable Liberty League course experience as the Statesmen chase down the league crown.
St. Lawrence is the defending women's champion, while Rensselaer won the 2021 title on the men's side.
