GENEVA, N.Y.—The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team scored three power-play goals as it knocked off 13th-ranked Oswego 5-2 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this evening. Five different Statesmen scored a goal in the season opener.
Luke Aquaro and
Tanner Hartman shared game-high honors, recording a goal and an assist in the victory.
Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal and made 20 saves in his collegiate debut. Etic Green made 32 saves in the Lakers' goal.
KEY STATS:
- Hobart finished the game with a 37-22 edge in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen were 3-for-4 on the power play while limiting the Lakers to just one power-play goal on six attempts.
- Hobart has now won four straight games against Oswego.
1ST PERIOD:
- Oswego outshot Hobart 9-7 in the first period.
- Beaver made a big glove save on a Connor Sleeth shot at the 9:57 mark of the first period to keep the game scoreless.
- The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 11:22 mark of the opening frame. Jonah Alexander one-time a shot from the low slot past Green for his first goal of the season. Shane Shell and Aquaro were credited with assists on the power-play goal.
2ND PERIOD:
- Oswego tied the game at the 2:47 mark of the second period. Quinn Warmuth fired a shot from the point past Beaver. Ryan Dickinson and Sleeth were awarded assists on the goal.
- In the middle portion of the period, the Statesmen's penalty kill came through in the clutch killing off an extended period of 5-on-3 play.
- Hobart took a 2-1 lead at the 18:29 mark of the period. Aquaro snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle over a diving Green. The power-play goal was assisted by Austin Mourar and Cooper Swift.
- Thirty-six seconds later, Ignat Belov deked around the Oswego goalie and slipped a backhander into the back of the net. His first collegiate goal, a power-play goal, was assisted by Hartman and Jared Patterson.
3RD PERIOD:
- Zach Tyson made it a three-goal game 11 seconds into the final period. He wristed a shot over Green's glove hand. Matthew Iasenza and Artem Buzoverya notched assists on the goal.
- Tanner Hartman added a goal at the 14:02 mark of the frame. He stuffed home a rebound attempt for his first collegiate goal. Tristan Fasig was credited with an assist on the tally.
- Tommy Cahill wrapped up the scoring for the Lakers. Matt McQuade notched an assist on the power-play goal.

"I couldn't be happier for our first game, playing a team like Oswego to get a win like that is key," Head Coach
Mark Taylor said. "Our power play stepped up for us which is nice. What was even nicer is we got goals from someone in every class and were group strong."

Hobart will be right back in action tomorrow, Oct. 29, when it welcomes Potsdam to The Cooler. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
