POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith College volleyball team won its final non-conference match of the season 3-1 over SUNY Geneseo this afternoon. Sophomore
Elizaveta Telepova led the Herons to their 15th win of the season with a career-high 20 kills.

"Today was a great win for us," Head Coach
Derryk Williams said. "To go out and get our first regionally-ranked win is big for our program. We shined in some places, but are excited to see how we will continue to grow over the next week."
Geneseo was seventh in this week's NCAA Division III Region III rankings.
KEY STATS
- As a team, William Smith posted 58 kills, 54 assists and 72 digs, all three totals are season-highs for the Herons in four-set matches.
- The 72 digs tied the program record set in a five-set match against Brockport last month.
HIGH FLYING HERONS
- Telepova is the second Heron to record 20 or more kills in a match. It's the most kills by a Heron in a four-set match.
- First-year Malya Sayre added 14 kills.
- Sophomore Elaina Wamhoff posted 43 assists and 10 digs.
- First-year Marin Montagne played well defensively, logging a team and season-high 16 digs.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
- William Smith took the first set 25-20.
- The Herons trailed 7-3 early, but surged into the lead with a 12-3 run.
- Geneseo (11-10) rallied to tie the first set at 20, but William Smith scored the final five points to take a 1-0 lead.
KNIGHTS ATTACK
- Geneseo bounced back with a 25-20 win in the second set.
- With the set tied at 19, the Knights used a late surge to even the match.
MATCH MOMENTUM
- The third set was a thriller, featuring seven ties and six lead changes.
- William Smith trailed 20-17, but fought back to tie the score at 23 and then took the lead on an ace by first-year Paige Madison.
- Geneseo did not go quietly, tying the set at 23, 24 and 25, but Telepova's sixth kill of the set put the Herons in front for good and Jaylynn McCarthy and Hope Von Dohlen teamed up for a block to clinch the set.
- In the fourth set, William Smith quickly built a 10-3 lead and held off a late Geneseo charge to win 25-22.
- Telepova hit .462 in the fourth set, posting seven kills.
REGULAR SEASON FINALE
- William Smith (15-5) will wrap up the regular season at noon, Saturday, Oct. 30 when the Herons visit Liberty League rival St. Lawrence (7-17).
- The Herons are 5-2 in conference play and have clinched the No. 3 seed in the Liberty League Tournament.
- The Saints, who play league-leader Ithaca tonight at 7:30 p.m., are 1-5 in the league.
