WILLIMANTIC, Conn.—The Hobart College basketball team won the third-place game of the ECSU Tip Off Tournament 74-51 over Anna Maria College this afternoon. Senior forward
Jackson Meshanic posted double-doubles in both games this weekend, including game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds against the Amcats, to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Hobart scored the first six points of the game and never looked back, maintaining a lead throughout the contest.
TURNING POINT
- Hobart turned a solid 11-point edge with two minutes left in the first half into a formidable 23-point advantage with a 12-point flourish to end the half.
- Carter Meshanic got the run started with four straight points. Jackson Meshanic added a 3-pointer near the one-minute mark and Carter hit a triple of his own 30 seconds later. Evan Goldberg's layup with seven seconds left sent the Statesmen into the locker room with a 45-22 lead.
- Hobart shot 51.7% in the first half, including 5-of-11 beyond the arc, while limiting Anna Maria to 28.6% shooting.
- The Statesmen didn't let their lead dip below 21 points in the second half.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Jackson Meshanic's 18 points came on 7-of-11 shooting, including 2-for-2 from deep, and 2-for-3 at the line.
- Patrick Walker added nine points, including a 5-for-5 effort at the free throw line.
- David Corrales Marco also logged nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range.
- Carter Meshanic finished with eight points.
- Goldberg chipped in six points and nine rebounds.
- Point guard Aidan Rodgers produced five points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.
LOTS OF CONTRIBUTORS
- Hobart sent 18 players into the game against Anna Maria, 15 of whom contributed at least one point or one rebound.
