Camacho wins twice against Niagara

GENEVA, N.Y.—Audrey Camacho won twice, but the William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Division I Niagara 6-1 in a non-conference contest inside Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Purple Eagles are now 2-7 on the season while the Herons are 0-1.
 
Niagara opened the match by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Maggie Bonomo and Camacho teamed up to beat Megan Gamble and Coral Rodriguez, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot. Bonomo and Camacho are now 3-2 on the season. The Purple Eagles won 6-2 in the No. 2 spot and 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.
 
Camacho beat Gamble for a second time in singles play. In the No. 2 spot, Camacho won, 7-5, 6-2. She is now 2-3 in singles play this season. Niagara won all five of its singles points in straight sets. Bonomo put up a strong fight in the No. 1 spot, but was edged, 6-4, 6-2, by Elena Mayet.
 
William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, March 5, when it welcomes Allegheny to Geneva. The match is set to begin at noon in Bristol Field House.
