GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team knocked off Allegheny 5-4 in a tightly contested match inside Bristol Field House this afternoon. With the victory, the Herons are now 1-1 on the season in dual matches and the Gators fall to 3-4 on the season.
William Smith took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play.
Maggie Bonomo and
Audrey Camacho teamed up in the No. 1 spot. They beat Katherine Marks and Jean-Arlette Legrand, 8-7 (7-5). Bonomo and Camacho are now 4-2 in doubles play this season, including a 2-0 mark in the No. 1 spot.
Isabelle Goings-Perrot and
Julia Pida bested Sabrina Rodriguez and Katherine Stancil 8-4 in the No. 2 spot. Allegheny picked up an 8-1 win in the No. 3 doubles spot.
The teams split the singles matches. William Smith won all three matches in the top half of the ladder. In the No. 3 spot, Goings-Perrot topped Stancil, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. With the win, Goings-Perrot is now 5-3 in singles play this season with a 1-1 mark in the No. 3 spot. Camacho lost only one game as she beat Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot of the lineup. Bonomo improved to 6-4 on the season with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 win over Marks in the No. 1 spot. Her victory clinched the overall victory for the Herons.
The Gators earned all three of their victories in straight sets. In the No. 4 and No. 6 spots, Allegheny lost only one game.
Crystal Morgans put up a tough fight in the No. 5 spot but was edged 7-5, 6-2.
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, March 6, when it welcomes Oneonta to Bristol Field House.
