Salisbury slips past William Smith 6-3

ORLANDO, Fla.—The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Salisbury 6-3 in a non-conference contest at the USTA National Campus this morning. The match was the first of four in the Sunshine State for the Herons who are now 2-2 on the season.
 
Salisbury (5-1) took an early 2-1 lead in the match at the conclusion of doubles play. William Smith's point came in the No. 1 spot as Maggie Bonomo and Audrey Camacho extended their winning streak to four matches with an 8-6 victory over Katherine Tamesis and Veronica Cuellar. Bonomo and Camacho are now 6-2 overall this season and 4-0 in the No. 1 spot. Julia Pida and Isabelle Goings-Perrot put up a strong fight but were clipped 12-10 in the No. 2 spot by Sarah Dover and Elizabeth Christine. The Sea Gulls logged an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 spot.
 
Salisbury clinched the overall victory, winning four of the six singles matches. William Smith won in straight sets in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots of the lineup. Camacho improved to 4-0 thanks to a 6-3, 7-5 win over Dover. It was Camacho's fifth win of the season. At No. 3, Goings-Perrot cruised past Katherine Tamesis, 6-2, 6-3. It was Goings-Perrot's team-leading seventh win of the season and third straight win in the third spot of the lineup.
 
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, March 22, when they take on Trinity. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
