ORLANDO, Fla.—The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Grinnell College, 8-1, in a non-conference contest at the USTA National Campus this afternoon. The Herons are now 2-4 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 14-3 overall.
Grinnell swept doubles play to take control of the match. The Pioneers won 8-0 in the No.3 spot. They collected 8-3 victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Grinnell rolled to straight set victories in five of the six singles matches. Lily Perrin clinched the overall match with a, 6-1, 6-0, win in the No. 4 spot.
Maggie Bonomo logged William Smith's lone point in the No. 1 singles spot. She defeated Irene Agusti 7-5, 4-6, 10-3. Bonomo has won back-to-back matches and is a team-best 9-5 in singles play. She is 4-2 in the No. 1 spot.
William Smith will wrap up its trip through Florida tomorrow, March 24, when it takes on Luther. The match at the USTA National Campus is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
