GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team snapped its four-match losing streak with a 7-2 victory over Nazareth in Bristol Field House this afternoon. With the win, the Herons are now 3-5 in dual matches this season.
William Smith swept doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead in the match.
Isabelle Goings-Perrot and
Julia Pida cruised past Lily Bulkeley and Katelyn Spath 8-0 in the No. 2 spot. With the win, Pida and Goings-Perrot are now 4-4 on the season, playing all eight matches in the No. 2 spot.
Maggie Bonomo and
Audrey Camacho rolled to an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 spot. They bested Aliya Guzman and Claire Pullen. Bonomo and Camacho are a team-best 7-5 in doubles play this season.
Charlotte Sanford and
Lucy Evans knocked off Theresa Hecht and Gwen Buns, 8-5, in the No. 3 spot. It was Evans and Stanford's first win as a duo.
The Herons won four of the six singles matches to secure the overall victory. In the No. 1 spot, Bonomo bested Guzman, 6-1, 6-1. It was Bonomo's team-leading 10th singles win of the season. She is 5-3 in the No. 1 spot. Camacho lost only one game as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pullen. Camacho is 6-6 on the season, including a 5-3 record in the No. 2 spot. Goings-Perrot logged her ninth win of the season, defeating Bulkeley, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 3 spot. Pida notched her third singles win with a clean sweep of Caroline Breitweiser. Pida didn't lose a game as she won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.
The Golden Flyers (9-4) won in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Katelyn Spath needed a superbreaker to defeat Charlotte Stanford, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on Rensselaer. The match in Troy, New York, is scheduled to begin at noon.
