LATHAM, N.Y.— First-year
Isabelle Goings-Perrot was a double winner for the William Smith College tennis team in its Liberty League opener. The Herons were defeated by Rensselaer 7-2 at Tri-City Fitness this afternoon. With the loss William Smith is now 3-6 on the season with an 0-1 record in conference play.
The Engineers (9-6, 3-1) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Goings-Perrot teamed up with
Julia Pida to knock off Krista Flores Gonzalez and Brooke Bauer, 8-4, in the No. 2 spot. Goings-Perrot and Pida are now 5-4 in doubles play this Spring playing all nine matches in the second spot. RPI won 8-4 in the No. 1 spot and 8-2 in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Goings-Perrot pulled out a hard-fought victory in the No. 3 singles spot. She defeated Nitya Subramaniam, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Goings-Perrot is now 10-5 on the season and shares the team lead in singles wins with
Maggie Bonomo. The Engineers took the other five sinles matches in straight sets.
William Smith will be back in action on Thursday, April 7, when it takes on Rochester. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Rochester.
