3/4/2022 5:05:00 PM

On Sunday, March 6, the Hobart College lacrosse team will travel to the Carrier Dome to take on Syracuse University in the annual Kraus-Simmons Trophy game. The opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7). Fans can also follow the action online with live video on ACC Network Extra and live stats on cuse.com.

Hobart is 2-1 and looking to rebound from its first loss of the season, a 15-12 setback at No. 9 Cornell on Tuesday. Midfielder John Herlihy led the Statesmen against the Big Red, finishing with a game-high matching five points on four goals and an assist, including a natural hat trick in the fourth quarter.

Hobart is averaging 16 goals per game, ninth in the nation. Syracuse native Ryan Archer leads the Statesmen offense with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points. Fellow attackman Tommy Mott has 12 points on seven goals and five assists, while Herlihy gives Hobart a third double digit scorer with 11 points on eight goals and three assists. Faceoff specialist Adam Shea has won 55.8% of his restarts and sports a team-high 26 ground balls. Goalie Kevin Holtby has played all but 4:33 this season, posting a 2-1 record with a .507 save percentage and a 12.65 GAA.

In Episode 36 of the Hobart Lacrosse Podcast, Head Coach Greg Raymond and Ted Baker have an honest and frank conversation about the Cornell game and look ahead to the Kraus-Simmons Trophy game at Syracuse.

Syracuse is 1-3 and aims to halt a three-game slide. The Orange faced a gauntlet of No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 Virginia and No. 13 Army West Point over the past three games. SU is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in turnovers (6th, 14.0/g) and ground balls (8th, 37.0/g).

The Orange have four players with 11 points or more, paced by Tucker Dordevic's 16 points on 12 goals and four assists. Brendan Curry (9-5-14), Owen Seebold (11-2-13) and Mikey Berkman (6-5-11) round out the quartet. Jakob Phaup is Syracuse's primary faceoff man. He's won 56.8% of his faceoffs and is sixth in the nation in ground balls (36, 9.0/g). Goalie Gavin Bobby has started all four games and sports a 1-2 record with a .440 save percentage and a 15.53 GAA.

One of the longest standing rivalries in collegiate lacrosse, Hobart and Syracuse will meet for the 107th time. Only two rivalries in college lacrosse have been contested more times: Hobart-Cornell (139) and Johns Hopkins-Maryland (122). The Orange lead the Statesmen 78-26-2.

Sunday will mark the 36th Kraus-Simmons Trophy, which honors National Lacrosse Hall of Fame coaches Babe Kraus of Hobart and Syracuse's Roy Simmons Sr. The Statesmen won the first Kraus-Simmons game 16-13 on Boswell Field in 1986 and claimed the trophy again in 2006 (9-8) and 2013 (13-12) with wins in the Carrier Dome.
