Hobart splits matches with Le Moyne, Allegheny

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team split its matches in Bristol Field House today. The Statesmen were edged by Division II Le Moyne 4-3 in the morning. This afternoon Hobart swept Allegheny 9-0. With today's results, the Statesmen are now 2-2 in dual matches this season.
 
Against the Dolphins, Hobart fell behind 1-0 after Le Moyne swept the doubles matches. Harry Lyu and Thomas Shung kept their match close in the No. 3 spot but were edged 6-4 by Jared Howard and Felipe Cruz.
 
The Teams split the singles matches. Winter Fagerbeg picked up a victory in the No. 1 spot, rallying to beat Tom Jarry, 1-6, 6-3, 10-5. Fagerberg is now 4-3 in singles play this season. Sean Pesin also rallied for a win in the No. 3 spot. He defeated Jared Howard, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-5. With the win, Pesin improved to 2-1 in singles matches this year. In the No. 6 spot, Hyat Oyer edged Ethan Miller, 6-1, 4-6, 10-1.
 
Against the Gators, Hobart took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. In the No. 1 spot, Guthrie Speers teamed up with Oyer to knock off Anton Hedlund and Wonjoon Choo, 8-3. In the No. 2 spot, Jett Wright and Leo Bakiri bested Benny Gantrish and Adam Shinomiya, 8-4.  Jack Ledford and Rahul Vallabhajosula defeated David Salazar II and Nate Chubb, 8-2.
 
Hobart won all six singles matches in straight sets. Playing in the No. 1 spot, Lyu topped Cho, 6-3, 6-1. With the win, Lyu is now 5-5 in singles play this season with a 1-0 mark in the No. 1 spot.  Jacob Linares edged Anton Hedlund, 6-1, 7-5. It was Linares' second singles win of the season. Thomas Shung knocked off Adam Shinomiya, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 3 spot. Speers notched his first win of the season with his victory in the No. 4 spot. He topped Will Jarvie, 6-0, 6-3. Vallahajosula logged a 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 5 spot and Leo Bakiri won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.
 
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, March 6, when it welcomes Saint Michael's to Bristol Field House. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
