GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team swept Division II Saint Michael's 7-0 this afternoon in a non-conference contest in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Statesmen are now 3-2 overall this season. The Purple Knights fall to 3-5 on the season.
Hobart opened the match by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot,
Jett Wright and
Troy Steiner cruised to a 6-1 victory over Josh Weiss and Stefan Barre.
Hyat Oyer and
Guthrie Speers bested Michael Rosen and Constantin Krough, 6-4, in the No. 3 spot of the lineup. Oyer and Speers are 4-1 overall this season.
The Statesmen swept singles play to secure the overall victory. In the No. 1 spot,
Winter Fagerberg edged Josh Weiss, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. With his third straight victory,
Winter Fagerberg is 5-3 this season including a 3-1 mark in the No. 1 spot.
Harry Lyu topped Sergio Barroso, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot. It was Lyu's sixth win of the season. He is 6-5 on the year. In the No. 3 spot,
Sean Pesin edged Jason Boucher, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Pesin is 3-1 on the season.
Troy Steiner improved to 3-3 overall on the season with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Michael Rosen. Oyer ran his winning streak to four matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 5 spot. Wright closed out the match with a victory in the No. 6 spot. He topped Stefan Barre, 6-3, 6-4.
Hobart will be back in action on March 16, when it welcomes Denison to Geneva. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
