GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team clipped SUNY Oneonta 5-4 in a non-conference contest in Bristol Field House this afternoon. With the victory, the Herons are now 2-1 in dual matches and Oneonta falls to 7-5.
William Smith took a 2-1 lead in the match following doubles play. In the No. 1 spot,
Maggie Bonomo and
Audrey Camacho bested Madeline Caswell and Maxie Karen, 8-2. Bonomo and Camacho are 3-0 in the No. 1 spot this season and are 5-2 overall.
Isabelle Goings-Perrot and
Julia Pida squeaked out an 8-5 victory over Olivia Fraser and Rebecca MacDonald in the No. 2 spot. Goings-Perrot and Pida are 2-1 this season as a doubles duo. Oneonta rolled to an 8-1 win in the No. 3 spot.
The teams split the singles matches, with William Smith winning in the top three spots and Oneonta in the bottom three spots. Bonomo lost only two games as she beat Olivia Fraser, 6-2, 6-0. Bonomo is a team-best 7-4 overall this season. Camacho improved to 3-0 in the No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Madeline Carswell. Camacho is 4-3 overall this season. Goings-Perrot clinched the overall victory for William Smith. She beat Sophia Schutte, 7-5, 1-6, 10-2. Goings-Perrot is 6-3 on the season with a 2-1 mark in the No. 3 spot.
The Herons are off until March 21, when they begin their spring break trip in Orlando, Florida. William Smith is set to take on Salisbury, Trinity, Grinell and Luther in the Sunshine State.
