HENRIETA, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over RIT in a Liberty League contest in Gordon Field House this afternoon. With their fourth straight win, the Statesmen are now 12-5 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League play this season.
Hobart took a 2-1 lead at the end of doubles play. The Statesmen opened the match with a hard-fought victory in the No. 1 spot.
Jett Wright and
Sean Pesin knocked off Grahith Movva and Christian Berko, 8-7 (7-5). With the win, Wright and Pesin are now 7-4 in the No. 1 spot this spring.
Jack Ledford and
Thomas Shung gave Hobart a 2-0 lead with their win in the No. 2 spot. They defeated Carter Casimir and Ethan Martin, 8-4. Ledford and Shung are now 5-2 overall this year, playing all seven matches in the No. 3 spot. The Tigers (8-7, 2-5) earned their lone point of the match with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles spot.
The Statesmen swept singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Pesin defeated Berko for the second time, logging a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 singles spot. Pesin is 7-6 overall this season and is 2-0 in the top spot of the ladder.
Harry Lyu gave Hobart a 4-1 lead in the match with a win in the No. 2 spot. He beat Movva, 6-4, 6-0, for his 13th win of the year. Lyu is 13-9 overall and 5-3 in the No. 2 spot. For the second straight match,
Troy Steiner clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen. He topped Max Chang, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot. Steiner is now 10-5 overall on the year with a perfect 4-0 mark in the No. 4 spot.
Hyat Oyer did not lose a game as he swept Jacob Meyerson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Oyer is a team-best 15-3 in his rookie season. In the closest match of the day,
Jacob Linares rallied to defeat Joel Pho, 0-6, 6-2, 13-11.
Rahul Vallabhajosula collected his fourth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 spot.
Hobart will be back in action Friday, April 15, when it welcomes Ithaca to Geneva. The Liberty League match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at the HWS Tennis Center.
