ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by the University of Rochester 8-1 in a non-conference match at the Goergen Center Courts this afternoon. The Herons are now 3-7 on the year.
The Yellowjackets (5-4) took control of the match with a sweep of doubles play.
Isabelle Goings-Perrot and
Julia Pida were in a tight battle in the No. 2 spot but were edged by Rola Abouziena and Jaclyn Dron, 8-7 (7-3). Rochester logged an 8-4 win in the No. 3 spot and an 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot.
The Yellowjackets clinched the match thanks to five singles wins. Rochester won two matches in straight sets.
Audrey Camacho logged William Smith's lone point in the match with a three-set win in the No. 2 singles spot. She beat Cami Ruiz Vega, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Camacho is 7-7 overall this season with a 6-4 mark in the second spot of the lineup. Goings-Perrot and Pida won their first sets in the No. 3 and 4 singles spots, respectively, but were defeated by Abouzeina and Stephanie Kim.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, April 9, when it heads to the North Country. William Smith is scheduled to take on St. Lawrence in Canton at noon.
