GENEVA, N.Y.—The regionally-ranked Hobart College tennis team did not lose a single game as it defeated Bard, 9-0, in a Liberty League contest at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 14-5 overall this season and 5-1 in conference play.
Hobart won all three doubles matches 8-0.
Guthrie Speers and
Leo Bakiri gave the Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the No. 3 spot. Hary Lyu and
Troy Steiner followed that up with their victory in the second spot. Lyu and Steiner have a team-best 12 wins and are 6-6 in the No. 2 doubles spot.
Jett Wright and
Sean Pesin closed out the doubles portion of the contest with their fourth straight victory. They are 9-4 in the No. 1 spot of the lineup.
The Statesmen won all six singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Bakiri extended Hobart's lead in the match to 4-0 with his victory in the No. 6 spot. With the win, Bakiri is 3-4 overall this year.
Jack Ledford clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen, besting Augustin Johnson in the No. 4 spot. Ledford is 4-2 in singles play this year.
Nick Grosso and
Rahul Vallabhajosula bested their opponents in the No. 3 and 5 spots, respectively. They both have five wins on the year.
Hyat Oyer and
Thomas Shung closed out the match in the top two singles spots. Oyer knocked off Kai O'Donnell for his team-leading 17th win of the year. Shung beat Joas Erasmus for his 10th win of the year.
The Statesmen will wrap up their three-game homestand tomorrow, April 24, when they take on Skidmore. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the HWS Tennis Center.
