GENEVA, N.Y.—The 23rd-ranked Skidmore College tennis team swept William Smith College 9-0 in a Liberty League contest at the HWS Tennis Center. The Herons are now 4-11 overall this season with a 1-6 mark in conference play.
The Thoroughbreds (10-5, 7-1) took command of the match with a sweep of doubles play. They won 8-0 in the No. 3 spot, 8-2 in the No. 2 spot and 8-3 in the No. 1 spot.
Skidmore won all six singles matches in straight sets to secure the overall match. Ella Provost clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 spot. William Smith senior
Maggie Bonomo, who was playing her final match at the HWS Tennis Center, was edged by Katherine Almquist, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), in the closest match of the day.
William Smith will wrap up its regular season next Saturday, April 30, when it heads to Poughkeepsie, New York, to take on No. 31 Vassar. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
