The nationally-ranked William Smith College soccer team will open Liberty League play tomorrow, Sept. 21, when it welcomes Rochester Institute of Technology to Cozzens Field. The match is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.

The Herons are ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches poll and seventh in the first D3soccer.com poll of the year. The Tigers are receiving votes in the D3soccer.com poll. Â

ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith enters the week with a 3-1-1 overall record and is coming off a pair of shutouts last week.
- The Herons have recorded four shutouts in five games and are 10th in the nation in shutout percentage. Â
- In addition, William Smith is 24th in the nation in goals against average (0.40).
- Offensively the Herons are led by Emma Faso's five points on two goals and an assist. Seneca Blakely-Armitage also has two goals.
- Amanda Kesler and Kirsten Nelson have split time in goal. Kesler is 1-1-1 with a 0.37 GAA and an an .857 save percentage. Nelson is 2-0-0 with a 0.44 GAA and a .889 save percentage.

- RIT brings a 5-0-0 record into tomorrow's game. The Tigers are coming off a 3-0 win over Brockport on Saturday.
- RIT also has four shutouts in its first five games and has not allowed a goal since the 15th minute of its season opener.
- Sam Halligan leads the team with five assists and seven points. She is fourth in the nation in assists per game (1.00) and is eighth in total assists.
- Darcie Jones has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 5-0-0 with a 0.20 GAA and a .909 save percentage.

- Wednesday's game will be the 45th meeting between William Smith and RIT. The Herons are 42-0-2 all-time against the Tigers, including a 22-0-1 mark in Geneva.
- The Herons have won 12 straight games, including nine shutouts, against RIT.
- In the last meeting, William Smith knocked off the Tigers 3-0 in the semifinal of the Liberty League Tournament. Amanda Kesler made seven saves in just under 89 minutes of work. Julia Keogh '21 and Sheila McQuillen '21 scored the Heron goals.
