SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— The William Smith College basketball completed a conference weekend sweep, defeating Union 53-44 on the road in a Liberty League matchup. The Herons move to 5-9 on the season and 3-4 in the conference, while the Dutchwomen fall to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Junior
Brooke Jarvis led the Herons with 19 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Jarvis' 19 rebounds ties for 16th on the Herons' single game record list and was the most by a Heron since senior
Lauren DeVaney posted 21 against Vassar in 2022. DeVaney chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds of her own in the win for William Smith.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Herons and the Dutchwomen shared points early on with seven tie scores in the first 10 minutes. William Smith and Union were tied at 12 heading into the second quarter.
- The battle continued in the second quarter as the Herons and Dutchwomen traded points. Jarvis posted seven points including a free throw with 18 seconds remaining in the half to give William Smith a three-point lead heading into the half.
- The Herons turned up the heat in the third quarter, going on a 12-0 run to start the second half including back-to-back layups by junior Fiona Horan.
- William Smiths defense was spot on in the third, keeping Union to just 5.9% from the floor while also posting 17 team rebounds.
- The Herons had a 14-point lead heading into the final quarter, but sharp shooting from Maura Conan who hit three three-pointers in the quarter would cut the Herons lead to five.
- Strong rebounding and shooting from the free throw line would be beneficial for William Smith as the clock wound down and the Herons secured their second consecutive conference win.
- Senior Kerstin Kelly was a crucial part to the Herons closing out the game as she posted all six of her points in the final ten minutes including two from the line.
