HENRIETTA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team won its sixth straight game, defeating Rochester Institute of Technology 74-56 in Clark Gymnasium this afternoon. The Statesmen used the formula that has led to success all season, tough defense and dominance in the paint, to record the program's longest win streak since winning six in a row in January and February of 2020.
Hobart shot 47.4% from the floor for the game, including 52.2% in the second half. The Statesmen, who began the game fourth in the nation in rebounding margin (+11.8), outrebounded the Tigers 40-24 and limited the home team to just 36.7% shooting.
Forward
Jackson Meshanic led Hobart with a game-high 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Guard
Carter Meshanic added nine points. The Statesmen got big contributions off the bench from guards
Isaiah Washington and
Pat Healy and center
Evan Goldberg. Washington scored a career-high 12 points, making 5-of-6 from the floor. Healy contributed nine points. Goldberg collected a game-high 10 rebounds and tossed in five points.
RIT bigmen Kevin Ryan and Andrew Fox posted double figures in scoring, finishing with 15 points and 12 points, respectively. Fox was the Tigers' top rebounder with eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After some early back-and-forth action, RIT led 13-12. Hobart seized the lead for good with six straight points on buckets by Hunter Meshanic (5 pts), Aidan Rodgers (6 pts) and Goldberg.
- The Statesmen lead was five with just two minutes remaining until halftime, but the visitors scored six straight heading into the break with a 37-26 lead.
- In the second half, Ryan converted an old fashion 3-point play less than five minutes in that pulled the Tigers within five, but the Statesmen countered with a 14-2 run to stretch their lead to 18. Washington had five points during the surge, including a traditional 3-point play of his own.
- Hobart's lead remained in double digits for the rest of the contest.

GAME NOTES
- Jackson Meshanic raised his career points total to 1,261, passing Michael Gambino '02 and moving into 16th place on Hobart's all-time list.
- Jackson Meshanic became the sixth Statesman to record more than 700 career rebounds. He now has 706. Meshanic is the first Statesman to hit that mark since Richie Bonney '14.
FOR THE RECORD
- Hobart improved to 12-7 overall, 8-4 in the Liberty League. The Statesmen sit in a three-way tie for second in the conference standings, one game behind first place Ithaca.
- RIT slipped to 8-10 overall, 4-7 in the league. The Tigers are seventh in the standings, two and a half games out of a playoff spot.

Hobart will play the second half of its four-game road trip in the North Country next weekend. The Statesmen will visit St. Lawrence (11-6, 7-4) Friday, Feb. 3.
