CANTON, N.Y.—Senior
Jackson Meshanic recorded his league-leading 13th double-double of the season, but the Hobart College basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in a 73-67 loss at St. Lawrence University tonight.
All three Meshanic brothers reached double digits for the Statesmen led by Jackson's game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds. Carter and Hunter each posted 10 points. Hobart (12-8, 8-5) dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Saints 40-26, but couldn't overcome 18 turnovers and a .397 field goal percentage.
St. Lawrence (12-7, 8-5) put four players in double figures led by Trent Adamson's 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. The Saints shot .481 for the game, including .579 in the second half.
St. Lawrence took the lead in the first minute of overtime and never relinquished it.
FIRST HALF
- Hobart jumped out to a 6-0 lead with Jackson Meshanic scoring the first four points of the game followed by a layup by Carter Meshanic.
- St. Lawrence fought back to tie the game at nine, before Hunter Meshanic's layup gave the Statesmen an 11-9 edge.
- Over the next six minutes, the Saints outscored Hobart 15-4 to build a 24-15 lead on the way to a 32-24 halftime advantage.
- Jackson Meshanic led all scorers with nine first half points.
SECOND HALF
- Hobart rallied to reclaim the lead midway through the second half. Senior Andrew Lynch made a 3-pointer to kick-start an 8-0 run that gave the Statesmen a 48-47 lead.
- The Statesmen led 63-59 on another triple by Lynch with 1:35 left in regulation, but the Saints scored the last four points of regulation to force overtime. Adamson tied the game at 63 with 30 seconds remaining and both teams missed chances to take the lead in the waning seconds.
OVERTIME
- Hobart briefly took the lead when Evan Goldberg made 1-of-2 free throws to open the scoring in OT.
- St. Lawrence swung back into the lead for good on Aidan Macaulay's jumper moments later.
- The two teams played more than two minutes of scoreless basketball until the Saints made it a three-point game with a pair of free throws with 1:34 left and Hobart never retook the lead or forged a tie.
- In OT, SLU went 6-for-6 at the line and 2-of-5 from the field, while holding the Statesmen to 1-of-8 shooting.
UP NEXT
- Hobart will wrap up its North Country trek Saturday, Feb. 4 at Clarkson (8-12, 5-8). The game is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m.
