GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College hockey team was edged by Oswego 5-2 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this evening. The Herons are now 9-11-1 overall on the season.

Emily Cataldo had a pair of assists for William Smith. Junior
Annie Hauser played all 60 minutes in goal and made 39 saves. Simone Bednarik led the way for Oswego (12-8-1). She scored twice in the second period. Sophia Kyrkostas (1g, 1a), and Amanda Zenstein (2a) also had multi-point games for the Lakers. Lexi Levy played all 60 minutes in goal and made 22 saves.

SCORING SUMMARY
- The Herons opened the scoring at the 1:09 mark of the first period. Senior Alisa Canney ripped a shot from the left faceoff circle over Levi's shoulder. Her second goal of the game was assisted by Izzy Friedman and Cataldo. It came on William Smith's first shot of the game.
- Just past the midway point of the opening frame, Kyrkostas tied the game with her second goal of the season. She took a puck off a William Smith defender's stick, raced the length of the ice and slipped a shot past Hauser.
- The Herons took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission Sydney Foster poked home a rebound for her fourth goal of the season. Cataldo and Annabel Ziskin were awarded assists on the goal.
- Bednarik scored the game's next two goals. With the Lakers on the power play, she carried the puck from the left point, around the top of the zone and wired a shot from the right faceoff circle past Hauser. Zenstein and Amanda Webster were credited with assists on the goal.
- Bednarik gave Oswego its first lead with under 30 seconds remaining in the second period. She forced a turnover in the slot and snuck a shot across the goal line. It was her fifth goal of the season.
- Mack Hull gave the Lakers a two-goal lead with her 10th goal of the season at the 8:40 mark of the third period. She collected a rebound and flipped the loose puck into the back of the net. Zenstein and Ashlyn McGrath were awarded assists on the tally.
- Mia Conboy wrapped up the scoring with just under two minutes remaining in the game. She wristed a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle past Hauser. Kyrkostas and Rylee Preston had assists on the goal.

William Smith will be back in action Friday, Feb. 3, when it welcomes Plymouth State to The Cooler. The New England Hockey Conference contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
