Meshanic scores game-high 25, but Bombers escape with win

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior forward Jackson Meshanic scored a game-high 25 points, but visiting Ithaca College scored with just 12.3 seconds remaining to escape Bristol Gym with a 75-74 Liberty League win this afternoon.

Sophomore forward Carter Meshanic made a pair of free throws to give the Statesmen (6-6, 2-3) a 73-68 lead with under a minute remaining. Sophomore guard Logan Wendell answered with a 3-pointer on the other end of the floor to cut the Hobart lead to two. The Bombers fouled immediately on the inbounds and sophomore guard Aidan Rodgers made 1-of-2. The Statesmen then put Ithaca on the line with 26 seconds left and Wendell made both to make it a 1-point game.

Following a timeout, the Bombers used full-court pressure to force a turnover and seconds later Wendell made a driving layup to give the visitors the lead. Hobart had the final shot of the game, but the driving layup hit the back iron and did not make a friendly bounce.

Jackson Meshanic was 11-of-17 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists. Senior forward Patrick Walker added 17 points and a team-high seven boards. Sophomore guard Pat Healy added eight points off the bench.

Wendell led Ithaca (7-4, 3-1) with 17 points. Graduate students Luka Radovich and George Sikoryak III each contributed 16 points. Senior guard Liam Spellman posted a double-double on 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
