#8 Norwich clips William Smith

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The William Smith College hockey was edged by eighth-ranked Norwich University 3-1 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Kreitzberg Arena this evening. The Herons are now 10-12-1 overall on the season with an 8-8-0 mark in conference play.
 
Junior Mackenzie O'Neil scored for William Smith. Junior Annie Hauser played just over 59 minutes in goal and made 20 saves. Nikki Lague led the way for the Cadets (16-5-2, 14-1-2) with two assists. Leocadia Clark made 20 saves in 60 minutes of action in the Norwich goal.

SCORING SUMMARY
  • Norwich opened the scoring at the 17:49 mark of the first period. Mikah Baptiste weaved through traffic and wristed a shot from the slot past Hauser. Her 22nd goal of the season was assisted by Jillian Jackson and Lague.
  • The Herons tied the game less than a minute later when O'Neil notched her sixth goal of the year. She picked up a rebound in the low slot and flipped the puck over Clark's leg. Ava Cornforth and Lauren Legler collected assists on the goal.
  • Norwich took the lead for good at the 15:47 mark of the middle frame. Ann-Frederique Guay slipped a shot over the goal line for her 18th goal of the season. Lague and Taylor Girouard had assists on the goal.
  • Neris Archambault added an empty-net goal in the final 29 seconds of the game.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will wrap up its regular season tomorrow, Feb. 11, when it heads to Henniker, New Hampshire to take on New England College. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
