POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The William Smith College basketball team fell to Vassar 85-61 in a Liberty League matchup in Poughkeepsie. The Herons move to 7-17 overall and 5-12 in conference play, while the Brewers move to 16-8 overall with a 13-4 mark in conference play.

Lauren DeVaney led the Herons with 13 points and nine rebounds while sophomore
Maddie Patrick chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. First-year
Carly Scott posted eight points in the loss.

HERON STAT LEADERS
FIRST HALF
- William Smith opened the contest on a 8-2 run thanks to two deep three pointers by Jarvis and senior Kerstin Kelly.
- The Brewers responded with a 15-0 run to take a nine point lead heading into the final minutes of the first quarter.
- Scott posted five points late in the quarter to keep the Herons within eight heading into the second quarter.
- Vassar opened up the second quarter on a 12-point run to extend its lead to 20 before Scott hit another three pointer to end the run.
- DeVaney added five points in the second quarter to keep the Herons within 20 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF
- Patrick hit a deep three-pointer to open the second half in hopes of sparking a comeback for William Smith.
- The Herons shot 75% from the free-throw line to start the second half which kept William Smith in the game.
- William Smith and Vassar traded points in the final quarter as first-year Mckenzie Mandyck, Patrick and Kelly each converted layups for the Herons.
- The Brewers continued to push the tempo late in the game, maintaining their 20-point lead for the remainder of the final quarter.
- Kolby Davis and Naiya Kurnik both hit three-pointers to seal the conference victory for Vassar.
