HAMILTON, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team earned its second win of the season as the Statesmen downed Colgate, 10-8, on a snowy Saturday matchup on Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium. With the win, the Statesmen move to 2-1 overall, while the Raiders fall to 0-2 on the season.
Junior attackman Anthony Datellas led Hobart with four points on three goals and one assist. Graduate students
Bradley Simas and
Mark Synnott,along with sophomore
James Greene chipped in two goals each for the Statesmen. Senior
John Herlihy recorded three assists in the win.

Loukas Sotiropoulos stopped 17 shots for the Statesmen, tying his career-high and earning his second win in net for Hobart.
MATCH HIHGLIGHTS
- Colgate got on the board first but was met by a three-goal response by the Statesmen.
- Dattellas received the ball from Herlihy and worked his way around the crease to beat his defender and evened the scoring at one.
- Less than two minutes later, junior Chad Bach found Simas cutting in front of the net. Simas fired off a behind the back shot that found the upper corner of the goal to give Hobart its first lead of the day.
- With 2:39 left in the first quarter, a scramble in front of the net found a wide open Greene who beat the goalie one-one-one to extend the lead to two.
- Simas opened the scoring in the second quarter, firing off a shot from a tight angle but beating the Raiders goalie.
- After a Colgate response, Dattellas added two more goals to record his second hattrick of the season.
- The Raiders responded with 15 seconds left on the clock to cut the score to 6-3, in favor of the Statesmen heading into the half.
- Greene opened the second half with his second goal of the game as he ripped a shot from 15 yards out on a man-up opportunity.
- While still a man-up, the Statesmen added another. Sophomore Will Delano fired off a shot that beat the goalie and extended Hobarts lead to five.
- 20 seconds later, Synnott beat two defenders with a fake pass and found himself one-on-one with the goalie to add his first goal of the 2023 season.
- Colgate took advantage of a man-up opportunity and capitalized on two goals to cut into the Statesmen lead heading into the final quarter.
- The Raiders used early momentum to add two more goals in the final quarter to cut Hobarts lead to just two.
- Synnott ended the 4-0 run for the Raiders with 5:35 remaining in the game. Similar to his first goal, Synnott beat two defenders and found himself one-on-one with the goalie which resulted in his career-high, second goal of the game.
- Colgate scored the final goal of the game with 4:07 remaining but the Statesmen would use the clock to their advantage to secure their second victory of the season.
KEY STATS
- The Raiders outshot the Statesmen 48-37, including a 25-18 mark on goal.
- Hobart owned a 11-10 advantage in faceoffs. Senior Adam Shea won all 11 faceoffs for the Statesmen.
- Shea collected a game-leading 10 ground balls as the Statesmen were edged 25-20 in that category.
ON THE OTHER SIDE
- Ben Trumble registered a hat trick for the Raiders.
- Michael Minicus led the team with four points on two goals and two assists.
- Conner Brook scooped up a team-high six ground balls.
- Matt Lacombe posted eight saves in the loss.

Hobart returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 28, when the Statesmen welcome Cornell to Geneva. Faceoff between the Statesmen and the Big Red is set for 5 p.m.
