GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore midfielder
John Jude Considine produced his first collegiate hat trick, but third ranked Cornell University defeated the Statesmen 17-8 on Boswell Field this evening. The Big Red improved to 3-0, while Hobart slipped to 2-2.

Cornell was led by junior attackman CJ Kirst's game-high 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Three other Big Red finished with three points. Billy Coyle scored a pair of goals and collected a team-high five ground balls. Goalie Chase Ierlan made 16 saves in 55 minutes to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hobart opened the scoring when first-year David Peterkin beat Ierlan just over three minutes into the game.
- Cornell responded with five straight goals, including three by Kirst, to take a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.
- The Big Red scored three more times in the first four minutes of the second quarter to expand its lead to 8-1. The first goal was scored by Kirst, who then assisted on the next two.
- Senior Jack Grooms, Greene and junior Anthony Dattellas scored in succession for Hobart to make it an 8-4 game with under four minutes left in the half.
- Both teams scored in the final 10 seconds with Considine beating the halftime buzzer off an assist from senior Bobby Baltzer. Cornell led 9-5 at the half.
- The Big Red scored the first two goal of the third quarter before Considine netted his second to stop the run.
- Cornell scored four times in the final six minutes of the frame to stretch its lead to 15-6. The Big Red added two more to start the fourth quarter for an 11-goal edge.
- Hobart scored the final two goals of the game with Considine completing his hat trick at the 2:53 mark.
