The Hobart College tennis team opened their 2023 season with two matches on the road this weekend. On Friday, the Statesmen fell to Le Moyne College, 6-1, followed by a 6-1 defeat to Cornell University on Saturday.
The Dolphins secured the doubles point after wins at the two and three spots, while junior
Sean Pesin and senior
Jett Wright edged Tom Jarry and Ethan Miller at the first position by a score of 7-6 (10-8).
In singles, Hobart sophomore Hyatt Oyer earned the point for the Statesmen with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at the fourth spot over Rodrigo Beires.
On Saturday, Division I Cornell University bested the Statesmen 6-1. Hobart dropped the one and two spot doubles, securing the doubles point for the Big Red. Sophomore
Nick Grosso and first-year Nick Fisher ended on a match point in Hobart's favor in the doubles three spot.
Cornell won five of the six singles matches to clinch the overall victory. Junior
Winter Fagerberg defeated Cornell's Noah Eisenberg, 6-4, 6-2, for the point. Hobart sophomore
Jacob Linares put up a good fight against Matthew Druyanoff, but was edged in a close match, 6-7 (4-7), 4-6.
