ORLANDO, Fla.— The Hobart College tennis team (2-3) kicked off its week of matches at the USTA national center in Orlando, Fla., with an 8-1 victory over Luther College (3-6) this afternoon.
The Statesmen took an early lead, winning two out of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Troy Steiner and senior
Harry Lyu defeated Felipe Biscaro and Ricky Portilla, 8-2 at the No. 2 position, while first-years
Nick Fischer and Aiden Staunton defeated Francisco Navarette and Eli Young at the No. 3 spot, 8-5.
In singles action, Hobart secured the victory, winning all six singles points. At the No. 1 spot, junior
Sean Pesin shined, beating the 14th nationally ranked singles player, Luke Westholder, in an exciting match, 0-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Lyu went two-for-two on the day, defeating Max Loen, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4, in the No. 2 position. Junior
Winter Fagerberg won at No. 3 spot, 7-6 (7-5),10-6, against Biscaro, while sophomore
Hyat Oyer topped Abhay Chhabra in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot.
Sophomore
Nick Grosso moved to 2-0 in the No. 5 position, as he defeated Marvin Kuehnelt in thrilling fashion, 4-6, 6-3,10-7. To finish the match, senior
Jett Wright made his seasons single debut in the No. 6 spot, and defeated Tiago de Felicio, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow with two matches against Carleton College (7-1) and Oglethorpe University (3-2). First serve against the Knights is set for 7:30 a.m. followed by a matchup with the Stormy Petrels at 1 p.m.
