Statesmen finish undefeated in Orlando, down Bantams 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla.— The Hobart College tennis team (7-3) continued its hot streak, defeating Trinity College (Conn.) (3-4) 7-1 this morning to improve to 6-0 in Orlando this week.
 
The Statesmen took an early lead earning all three of the doubles points. Senior Jett Wright and junior Sean Pesin defeated Henry Bilicic and Jack Ginter, 8-4, at the No. 1 position. The duo went 4-1 this week in the No. 1 spot for Hobart.
 
Senior Harry Lyu and sophomore Troy Steiner topped Eduardo Sanchez-Carrion and Pierce Rutledge in a close match at the No. 2 spot, 8-7 (7-2), as well as first-years Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton against Rico Buoro and Brandon Felcher, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot. Fischer and Staunton now move to 6-0 in doubles play this season. 
 
In singles play, Hobart extended its lead, winning five out of the six singles matches. Fagerberg clipped Sanchez-Carrion in a close match, 7-6, 7-5, at the No. 2 position, while sophomore Hyatt Oyer defeated Buoro in straight sets, 6-4,6-4, at the No. 3 spot.
 
Fischer also won in straight sets at the No. 4 position against Ginter, 6-4, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot, sophomore Jacob Linares downed Felcher in thrilling fashion, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Sophomore Nick Grosso bested Erodula, 6-3, 6-2 to help Hobart to its sixth straight victory.

"I think we got better as a team this spring break," said Head Coach Tim Riskie. "I am really proud of the way we competed, responded to tough conditions, and continued to build an amazing culture. On the court we were good, off the court we were great. This will be the key to our success this season."

The Statesmen will kick off their regular season next week, when they head to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. to take on Bard College (1-4). More details on Friday's matchup with the Raptors will be released at a further date.
