GENEVA, N.Y.— The William Smith College tennis team downed Nazareth College 9-0 in a nonconference matchup this afternoon in Bristol Field House. The Herons move to 5-4 on the season, while the Golden Flyers fall to 8-5.
Nazareth entered the dual match short players due to injuries and had to withdraw from the No. 6 singles spot and the No. 3 doubles spot. That handed William Smith two free points and sophomore
Mia Tetrault and the duo of junior
Jamie Fine and first-year
Marin Montagne automatic victories.
The Herons extended this lead right away, earning both available doubles points. In the No. 1 position sophomore
Isabelle Goings-Perrot and Liberty League Rookie of the Week, first-year
Haley Levine, defeated Catherine Zak and Alie Klee, 8-0, while sophomore
Natalie Haythorn and first-year
Maddy Buck beat Theresa Hecht and Sarah Stone, 8-2 at the No. 2 spot.
William Smith secured the victory in singles play, winning all five singles matches in straight sets. Goings-Perrot bested Zak at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2, while sophomore
Julia Pida topped Hecht, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.
Fine defeated Stone at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-2. Fine is now 2-0 this season in singles play. At the No. 5 spot, Montagne swept Klee 6-0, 6-0.
