GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team opened its spring season this afternoon with an 8-1 win over SUNY Oneonta in Bristol Field House. The Herons move to 2-0 on the season while the Red Dragons fall to 8-4.
The Herons swept the doubles action with wins on all three courts. First-year
Haley Levine and sophomore
Isabelle Goings-Perrot won 8-0 in the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 spot, senior
Audrey Camacho and sophomore
Julia Pida won a thrilling 8-7 match, taking the tiebreaker 7-5. At the No. 3 position, junior
Jamie Fine and first-year
Maddy Buck defeated Danielle Copp and Jessica Harris, 8-3. The Herons went into singles play up 3-0.
In singles play, the Herons wrapped up an impressive win, taking five-of-six matches. At the No. 1 spot, Goings-Perrot defeated Julia Holterman 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 2 spot, Levine bested Sophia Shutter 6-3, 6-0. Camacho won at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-3, against Maxie Karen.
In her first collegiate match, first-year
Marin Montagne won the No. 5 spot battle over Madelyn Brophy, by a score of 6-2, 6-0. The final singles match of the day was won by Pida, who defeated Gabrielle Loria, 6-2, 6-0.
