GENEVA, N.Y.— The Hobart College tennis team downed No. 37 Vassar College this afternoon at the HWS Tennis Center. The Statesmen move to 12-4 overall with a 4-1 mark in conference play, while the Brewers fall to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League.
Hobart took an early lead, earning two out of the three available doubles points. Senior
Harry Lyu and sophomore
Troy Steiner defeated Russel Oh and Miles Sondegaard Yensen at No. 2, 8-4, as well as first-year's
Nick Fischer and
Aidan Staunton, 8-4, against Ethan Mantell and James Balon at the No. 3 spot.
In Singles action Hobart secured the victory, winning five out of the six singles matches. Senior
Harry Lyu earned his second victory of the day as he defeated Benjamin Almquist in thrilling fashion, 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (10-4), 10-7, at the No. 2 position.
At the No. 3 spot, junior
Winter Fagerberg topped Nolan Kubiak in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, while sophomore
Hyat Oyer bested Arnav Agostinho at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4, for his 11th consecutive win in singles play.
Fischer downed Balon at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-3, also for his 11th consecutive win. No. 22 regionally ranked singles player, junior
Sean Pesin clinched the victory for the statesmen, beating Fernando Bauermeister in a thrilling match 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, at the No. 1 position.

Hobart will be back in action at home on Tuesday, April 18, when it takes on RIT. The Tigers are 6-9 overall with a 2-5 mark in the Liberty League. First serve between the Statesmen and the Tigers is set for 4 p.m. at the HWS Tennis Center
