GENEVA, N.Y.— The No. 16 regionally ranked Hobart College tennis team edged No. 33 nationally ranked RPI, 5-4, this afternoon in Liberty League action in Bristol Field House. The Statesmen move to 14-5 overall with a 6-1 mark in conference play, while the Engineers fall to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the Liberty League Conference.
Hobart took the lead early in doubles action, earning two out of the three available points. Senior
Jett Wright and junior
Sean Pesin beat the No. 9 regionally ranked doubles team, Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu, 8-6 at No. 1, while senior
Harry Lyu and sophomore
Troy Steiner downed Igor Visnovskij and Bryce Burnham at the No. 2 spot, 8-2.
The Statesmen secured the match in singles action, winning three out of the six singles matches. No. 17 regionally ranked singles player and Liberty League Singles Player of the week, Pesin, earned his second win of the day defeating No. 7 regionally ranked singles player, Drover-Mattinen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 position. This was Pesin's fifth win over ranked opponents this season.
Sophomore
Hyat Oyer edged Burnham in an exciting match at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Oyer is now on a 13-match win streak in singles action for Hobart and remains undefeated in conference play.
First-year Nick Fisher clinched the victory for the Statesmen by beating Jonathan McMillan at the No. 5 position in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. Fischer is also on a 13-match win streak and is undefeated in conference play.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, April 23, for its last regular season matchup of the season against St. Lawrence University (7-7). First serve between the Statesmen and the Saints is set for 10 a.m. at HWS Tennis Center.
