GENEVA, N.Y.— The Hobart College tennis team topped the University of Rochester this afternoon in a non-conference matchup in Bristol Field House, 8-1. The Statesmen move to 10-4 overall, while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-7 overall.
Hobart took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play. Sophomore
Troy Steiner and senior
Harry Lyu defeated Rahul Ravi and Kenneth Lee, 8-3 at the No. 2 spot, while first-year's
Nick Fischer and
Aidan Staunton downed Kei Ogawa and Sid Tirupati at the No. 3 spot, 8-1. Fischer and Staunton now move to 9-1 in doubles action this season.
The Statesmen turned up the heat in singles action, earning all six available points. No. 22 regionally ranked singles player, senior
Sean Pesin, defeated Krish Vennam, 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot.
At the No. 2 position, Lyu edged Kai Yuminaga in thrilling fashion, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, as well as junior
Winter Fagerberg against Ravi, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3.
Sophomore
Hyat Oyer bested Ogawa at the No. 4 spot 7-5, 6-1, while Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Fischer, defeated Lee, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot for his ninth consecutive singles victory.
Sophomore
Nick Grosso swept Alex Kulvivat at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Grosso clinched the victory for the Statesmen and moves to 6-1 in singles action this season.

Hobart will continue Liberty League play this Friday, April 7, when it travels to Ithaca to take on the Bombers. Ithaca is 6-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. First serve between the Statesmen and the Bombers is set for 4 p.m.
