Herons welcome Rochester in nonconference matchup

4/5/2023 2:24:00 PM

The William Smith College tennis team (6-6) will host out-of-conference foe University of Rochester in a midweek matchup on Thursday, April 6.  First serve between the Herons and the Yellowjackets is set for 4 p.m. at HWS Tennis Center. In the event of inclement weather, the match will move inside to Bristol Field House.

Live video of the match will be available on hwsathletics.com.

The Herons are coming off a 1-2 weekend in conference play. William Smith swept Bard on Friday, 9-0, and fell to No. 29 Skidmore, 8-1, on Saturday, and 9-0 to Union the following day. After falling to the Dutchwomen on Sunday, the Herons look to bounce back and stay perfect at home.

Sophomore Isabelle Goings-Perrot and first-year Haley Levine led the Herons this weekend, going 2-1 in the No. 1 doubles spot.  The duo defeated Bard's Gusac and Kelly, 8-3, and Skidmore's Lal and Thongphok, 6-5.  Both Goings-Perrot and Levine each grabbed victories in singles action as well, defeating opponents from Bard in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

Rochester brings a 4-8 overall record to Geneva after defeating SUNY Oneonta, 8-1, on April 2. The Herons and Yellowjackets competed earlier this season as both teams played in the Mary Hosking Invitational in September. Rochester's Josephine Libby defeated Levine, 8-1, in the Flight A semifinals, on the way to being crowned the Flight A champion. Hannah Chin also defeated sophomore Charlotte Sanford, 8-2, in the Flight D consolation bracket.
