The Hobart College lacrosse team will journey to High Point, North Carolina, to take on the High Point University Panthers in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup Saturday, April 8. The opening faceoff at Vert Stadium is set for noon.

Hobart (5-4, 1-0) opened Atlantic 10 play with a 24-10 win over St. Bonaventure last Saturday. Fourteen different players scored for the Statesmen, led by senior attackman Troy Barthelme's game-high five goals. Trailing 5-3 early in the second quarter, Hobart used a 17-1 run, including 13 in a row spanning the second, third and fourth quarters, to break the game wide open.

High Point (6-5, 0-1) was on the road last week, dropping a 12-10 decision at UMass. The Panthers' Jaxson Lamb tied the game at 10 with just over five minutes remaining, but the Minutemen scored about a minute later to retake the lead and added an insurance goal with the man advantage to seal the victory.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
  • High Point is one of two teams on Hobart's 2023 schedule that the Statesmen have never played. The other is also an A10 rival, University of Richmond.
  • This weekend's road trip is the longest on Hobart's schedule this season. It's approximately 500 miles from Urick Stadium to Vert Stadium, more than double the distance of the second longest trip (Robert Morris, 232 miles). The Statesmen are flying to face an opponent for the first time since Feb. 27, 2016, when Hobart played Cornell in West Palm Beach, Florida.
  • Statesmen senior faceoff specialist Adam Shea was named the A10 Defensive Player of the Week following the win over the Bonnies. He won 68% of his faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 13 ground balls. Shea is sixth in the nation in ground balls per game (9.11). In 36 career games, he has 282 ground balls, third among Division I Statesmen, just two behind No. 2 Bobby Dattilo '12.
  • Hobart and High Point are two of the toughest teams in the nation to clear against. The Statesmen are sixth in the nation, riding the opposition 20.5% of the time. The Panthers lead the nation at 25.2%.
  • The game will also feature the top two point producers in the A10, High Point's Jack VanOverbeke and Hobart's Anthony Dattellas. VanOverbeke leads the league at 4.27 ppg (24-23-47) with Dattellas close behind at 4.12 ppg (22-11-33).
