Rowing heads to Worcester for NIRCs

The Hobart College rowing team will be back in action Friday, May 12, when it travels to Worcester, Massachusetts, to compete in the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
 
Hobart will enter four varsity eights in the regatta. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the varsity eight race.
 
Hobart's 1V8 will be on the water in the first heat competing against Williams, Michigan, Hamilton and Adrian. The top two finishers in each heat will advance to the grand finals with the third and fourth place finishers progressing to the petite finals. The remaining boats will compete in the third level final.
 
Hobart's varsity eight has finished on the podium in six of the last seven NIRC regattas, winning three gold medals. The Statesmen were fifth in 2022.
 
Hobart's second varsity eight will compete in Heat 2 at 10:10 a.m. The Statesmen will compete against Trinity, the Wolverines, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Marist and Ithaca. The top three boats in each heat will advance to the grand finals with the remaining boats progressing to the petit final. Hobart was fourth last year.
 
The Statesmen's 3V8 will be on the water at 11:00 a.m. Hobart will take on Tufts, WPI and Bates. The top two boats advance to the grand final with the remaining boats progressing to the petit final. The Statesmen's 3V8 won a gold medal in 2019.
 
Hobart will also compete in a finals only fourth varsity eight race at 5:15 p.m. The Statesmen will compete against Tufts, two boats from Michigan, Williams and Wesleyan.
