GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over Keuka College on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium this evening. The win was the Statesmen's fifth straight in a season-opener.
Six different Statesmen scored in the victory and eight players found their way onto the scoresheet. Sophomore
Quinn Phillips led the way for Hobart with three points on a goal and an assist. Senior
Marcelo Suarez added a pair of assists. Senior Guillermo Castañeda Chang started in goal and made one save as he earned the win. Graduate student
Ry Cohen made one save in just under 30 minutes of work.
Carson Smith played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wolves. He made four saves.
FOR THE RECORD
- With tonight's victory Hobart is now 12-0-0 all-time on the turf at Boswell Field.
- The six goals were the most by the Statesmen since scoring six goals against Nazareth on Oct. 7, 2014, a game also contested on Boswell Field.
- Hobart improves to 7-0-1 against Keuka all-time.
FIRST HALF
- The Statesmen opened the scoring in the fourth minute off a corner kick. Suarez served the ball into the box and Phillips buried the bouncing ball into the upper half of the net.
- Graduate student Nolan Fierro doubled Hobart's lead in the 13th minute off a feed from Phillips. Phillips carried the ball down the right wing and crossed the ball into the box. Fierro one-timed the shot past a diving goalie.
- Sophomore Alex Daniels gave Hobart a 3-0 lead on his first collegiate goal. He collected a leading pass from junior Griffin Patterson, raced down the right wing and chipped a shot from a tight angle into the upper right corner of the cage.
SECOND HALF
- Hobart picked up right where it left off to open the second half. First-year La Zai Outerbridge pocketed his first collegiate goal in the 47th minute. Outerbridge's shot from the top of the box curled around the diving keeper. Graduate Student Chris Friedlander was awarded an assist on the goal.
- Senior Amad Miller made it 5-0 in the 67th minute. Miller collected a through ball from Suarez and chipped a shot past the hard-charging Keuka goalie.
- First-year Joe Pariano rounded out the scoring with a goal from just beyond midfield. His 63-yard shot looped over Keuka's goalie and bounced into the empty net. First-year Max Koczan was awarded an assist.
LATE STAGES
- Hobart finished the contest with a 14-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen held a slight 3-2 edge in Corner kicks.
COACH'S CORNER
"We've been working on this for four straight days on playing simple," Head Coach
Shawn Griffin said. "We talked about being very simple and I think you saw that. I was happy with the execution. We really played well tonight."
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 3, when it welcomes Muhlenberg to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
