Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith College tennis team was represented by two Herons at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women's Northeast Regional Championships this weekend held at the HWS Tennis Center.
The action for the Herons began in the singles bracket with sophomore
Haley Levine taking on Yvette Karera from St. Lawrence University. Levine defeated Karera by a score of 5-7, 7-3, 10-4. Levine then defeated Gabby Robinson from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the round of 16 where she faced fifth-seeded Jimena Menendez from New York University on Sunday morning. Levine ultimately fell, 6-0, 6-4. Junior
Natalie Haythorn took on Zoey Albert from TCNJ in her singles match, falling 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles action, the pairing of Levine and Haythorn took on Medina Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro from Juniata. The Herons defeated the Eagles duo, 8-7 (7-4), to advance to the round of 16 where they took on the fifth-seeded pairing of Yvette Karera and Anette Karera from St. Lawrence University. The Herons fell in an 8-4 decision to the Saints.
William Smith will be back in action one more time this fall on Sunday, Oct. 8th, as it travels down to Philadelphia, PA for a scrimmage against Washington College. First serve between the Herons and the Shorewomen is set for 4:30 p.m.
