GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart senior captain
Luke Aquaro scored a pair of goals as the top-ranked Hobart Hockey team knocked off Oswego 5-2 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this evening. It extended Hobart's winning streak to 15 straight games.
In addition to Aquaro, senior
Matthew Iasenza (1g, 1a) also had a multi-point game for the Statesmen. Junior
Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal. He made 31 saves in the win.
Six different players had a point for the Lakers. Brandon Milberg played all 60 minutes in goal and made 31 saves.
STREAKING
- In addition to its winning streak, Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 26 games (25-0-1).
- Hobart has won 38 straight games at The Cooler.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hobart finished the game with a 36-33 edge in shots on goal.
- Hobart was 1-for-4 with the man advantage and Oswego was 1-for-3 with the extra attacker.
THE FIRST PERIOD
- Hobart controlled the opening period, outshooting the Lakers 11-5.
- Aquaro opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game. He collected a pass from graduate student Austin Mourar in the slot and chipped a shot past Milberg. Senior Cooper Swift also had an assist on the power-play goal.
- Iasenza made it a two-goal game at the 11:39 mark of the opening frame. He backhanded a shot from directly in front of the cage past Milberg. Junior Tanner Daniels was awarded an assist on the goal after breaking up an Oswego clearing attempt.
THE MIDDLE STANZA
- Oswego broke up the shutout bid at the 4:20 mark of the second period. Ryan Burke poked home a rebound for his first goal of the season. Jonathan Balah and Nico Paone had assists on the goal.
- Just over three minutes later, sophomore Chris Duclair scored a short-handed goal to give Hobart a 3-1 lead. He broke up a play at his own blue line and used his speed to out-race the Laker defender. Duclair then wristed a shot past Milberg.
- Just before the midway point of the game, Oswego closed the gap to one goal. Matt McQuade snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle past Beaver. His power-play goal was assisted by Connor Gatto and Daniel Colabufo.
THE FINAL FRAME
- Hobart broke the game open with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of regulation.
- First-year Callum Chau notched his first collegiate goal at the 15:49 mark of the first period. He fired a seeing-eye shot through traffic past Milberg. First-year Tamas Toth and Iasenza were awarded assists on the goal.
- Eighty-two seconds later, Aquaro deked around Milberg and slipped a shot across the goal line. His second goal of the game was assisted by senior Shane Shell and sophomore Bauer Morrissey.
CAPTAINS' COMMENTS
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- With two points tonight, Aquaro now has 102 in his career. He is tied for ninth on Hobart's all-time list with John Shane '83 and Matt Sibley '96.
- His 56 career goals are seventh, one behind Bill Tryder '92.
