The William Smith soccer team is one of 16 hosts for the first and second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Herons will take on Penn State Harrisburg at 11 a.m. The contest will be followed by Tufts vs. Rowan at 1:30 p.m. The advancing teams will meet Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for general admissions, $3 for senior citizens, military personnel and students (ages 13-college), children ages 3-12 are $2. Children under 3-years-old are free. HWS students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid HWS ID courtesy of HWS Athletics.
William Smith is ranked 11th in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. The Herons are 12-3-4 overall this season and earned one of 21 at-large bids into the 64-team field. The Herons are making their 34th NCAA tournament appearance (68-25-10). William Smith is seeking its third national title (1988, 2013).
The Lions enter the tournament with a 10-5-5 overall record. Penn State Harrisburg secured the United East automatic bid into the NCAA tournament edging St. Mary's College of Maryland 4-3 on penalty kicks. The Lions are making their second NCAA appearance (0-1-0). This will be the first meeting between William Smith and Penn State Harrisburg.
Tufts is 13-3-1 overall and earned an at-large bid to the tournament. The Jumbos were defeated by Amherst 2-1 in the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament. Tufts is making its 11th appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Jumbos are 18-8-5 in their previous 10 trips and made the national championship game in 2000.
Rowan is 13-2-2 overall. The Profs earned an at-large bid after falling to Montclair State 2-1 in overtime in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament. Rowan is making its 17th appearance in the tournament. The Profs are 11-14-2 in NCAA tournament games.
