Herons blank Huskies 2-0

GORHAM, Maine—The William Smith ice hockey team shut out the University of Southern Maine 2-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the USM Ice Arena this afternoon. With the win, the Herons earned a split of the weekend series with the Huskies and are now 3-3-0 on the season with a 3-1-0 mark in conference play.
 
Senior Annabel Ziskin and first-year Bella Hacker scored for William Smith. Senior Erin Murray played all 60 minutes in goal and made 17 saves.
 
Haley McKim made 29 saves in goal for the Huskies (3-2-1, 2-1-1). 
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Hacker opened the scoring at the 7:30 mark of the second period. She collected a loose puck and fired a shot past McKim. It was her second goal of the season.
  • Ziskin tacked on an empty-net goal with 48 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • Neither team scored in the opening frame. William Smith finished the opening 20 minutes with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • William Smith had an extended 5-on-3 power play in the second period but could not sneak a shot past McKim.
