MIDDLETOWN, R.I.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team skated to a 4-0 win over 14th-ranked Salve Regina in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Howard Rink this afternoon. With the win, Hobart is now 7-0-0 to start the season with a 5-0-0 mark in conference play.
Eight different skaters found their way onto the score sheet for the Statesmen. Junior
Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal and made 25 saves as he earned the shutout.
Cayden Bailey played all 60 minutes in goal for the Seahawks (4-2-0, 3-2-0). He made 49 saves.
STREAKING
- With tonight's win, Hobart has won 21 straight games. That is the seventh-longest streak in NCAA Division III history.
- The Statesmen are unbeaten in their last 32 contests (31-0-1). That is the fourth-longest streak in Division III.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hobart finished the game with a 53-25 advantage. After being out shot 11-10 in the first period, the Statesmen held a 43-14 advantage in shots on target in the final 40 minutes.
- Hobart was 2-for-7 on the power play and Salve Regina was 0-for-4 with the extra skater.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Hobart opened the scoring at the 10:43 mark of the second period. Sophomore Chris Duclair fired a shot past Bailey for his fourth goal of the season. Senior Cooper Swift was awarded an assist on the tally.
- Five minutes later, junior Tristan Fasig snapped a shot from the low slot into the back of the net. The shorthanded goal was an unassisted goal.
- Graduate student Austin Mourar extended Hobart's lead to three goals at the 5:27 mark of the third period. He blasted a shot from the point past Bailey for his first goal of the season. Seniors Luke Aquaro and Shane Shell were awarded assists on the power-play goal.
- First-year Josh Doolan added a power-play goal to round out the scoring. His first collegiate goal was assisted by junior Kahlil Fontana.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- With tonight's shutout, Beaver now has 15 shutouts for his career. He is seventh on the NCAA DIII career list.
