#1 Hobart blanks #11 Elmira 6-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team closed out the 2024 portion of its schedule with a 6-0 win over 11th-ranked Elmira in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. With the win, Hobart is now 10-0-0 on the season with an 8-0-0 record in NEHC play.
 
Senior Shane Shell (1g, 1a), senior Luke Aquaro (2a) and sophomore Bauer Morrissey (2a) all had multi-point games in the victory. Junior Mavrick Goyer played all 60 minutes in goal and made 16 saves as he earned his third shutout of the season.
 
Brody Haynes started in goal for the Soaring Eagles (5-3-2, 5-2-1) and made 12 saves in the first 35 minutes of action. Cameron Manley played the final 25 minutes and made 18 saves.
 
STREAKING
  • With today's win Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 43 straight games at The Cooler.
  • The Statesmen are unbeaten in their last 35 contests (34-0-1) and have won 24 straight games. Hobart's winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest streak in NCAA Division III.
  • The Statesmen have won 16 straight NEHC games.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 36-16 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power-play and Elmira was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Hobart opened the scoring at the 15:46 mark of the first period. Sophomore Conor Lally one-timed a pass from Morrissey past Manley for his second goal of the season. Sophomore Chris Duclair also had an assist on the power-play goal.
  • Three minutes later, junior Tanner Daniels gave Hobart a 2-0 lead. His eighth goal of the season was assisted by Shell and Aquaro.
  • Junior Ignat Belov made it a three-goal game at the 9:48 mark of the second period. He tucked home a rebound for his third goal of the season. It was assisted by junior Kahlil Fontana.
  • Two minutes later, sophomore Dominic Schimizzi pocketed his third goal of the year, firing home a pass from Morrissey.
  • Shell rounded out the second period with his third goal of the year. Aquaro and graduate student Austin Mourar were awarded assists on the goal.
  • Sophomore Brandon Sacchetti added an insurance goal in the third period. His second goal of the season was assisted by Callum Chau and Nick Dimatos.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
  • With two assists today, Aquaro now has 51 for his career. He is the first Hobart player to have 50 career goals and 50 career assists since Craig Levey '05 (57, 54).
  • Aquaro now has 109 career points. He is ninth on Hobart's career list, two behind Levy.
  • Goyer's shutout was the 11th of his career. He is tied for second with Nick Broadwater on Hobart's career list.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 4, 2025, when they head to Rye, New York, to take on Manhattanville.
