GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart and William Smith Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian Miller has announced a restructuring of the Sports Performance unit in the Athletic Department following the resignation of Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Strategic Initiatives and John J. Hogan Strength and Conditioning Head Coach
Chris Gray.
Strength & Conditioning Associate Head Coach and Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development
Brittany Krivicich will be promoted to head coach and Strength & Conditioning Assistant Coach
Derek Berry will be promoted to associate head coach. HWS will conduct a national search for a new strength & conditioning assistant coach to maintain the current staffing level.
"I'm pleased that Brittany has chosen to take on this role to continue to build and provide a quality strength & conditioning experience for our student-athletes," says Miller. "I have complete confidence in her ability to organize, schedule, coach and manage programming for all 30 intercollegiate sports."
Krivicich is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She has played an integral role in the growth and success of the HWS strength and conditioning program and has more than a decade of coaching experience, working with student-athletics across a broad spectrum of sports at Ithaca College, University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Baylor University. Krivicich is in her fourth year on the strength and conditioning staff at HWS.
Krivicich will continue to oversee student-athlete development. In that role, she has led the HWS life skills programs, coordinating speakers and events that prepare student-athletes to be leaders on their teams and on campus and for life after the cheering stops.
"The HWS Sports Performance program is one of the best in the business," says Liz Dennison, associate athletic director and senior woman administrator. "This includes our strength and conditioning and sports medicine staff, as well as our other support programming in the areas of nutrition, mental preparation and sport performance consultants, and more. Coach Krivicich is the right person to lead the strength and conditioning staff and coordinate programming to support our student-athletes. Brittany, supported by an amazing staff, will provide our coaches and student-athletes a top-quality experience and the training they need to be successful."
Krivicich earned a bachelor's degree in fitness development from SUNY Cortland in 2013 and a master's degree in exercise and sports science and sport psychology from Ithaca in 2018.
"It's truly an honor to become the next head coach of strength and conditioning for Hobart and William Smith," says Krivicich. "It's been a privilege to work alongside Coach Gray and be a part of everything we have built over the years. HWS is a wonderful place with a great group of student-athletes. Now I am excited to build on the development of strength and conditioning and position all of our teams for success with our comprehensive sports performance and leadership programming."
Berry has been a member of the HWS coaching staff since 2022. He is a National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 sports performance coach. Before moving to Geneva, he spent five years as a performance specialist with Ignition Athletic Performance Group, providing strength and conditioning programming for Loveland and Turpin high schools and assisting the Cincinnati Bengals strength and conditioning staff.
"Coach Berry has a proven track record, including his work with Hobart hockey and Division I Hobart lacrosse teams," says Dennison. "He brings a scientific, data driven approach to our training programs, and we are excited for him to take on a larger role in the S&C program at HWS."
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor's degree in exercise and fitness, Berry worked as a student intern with the Bearcats' football, golf, swimming and diving, soccer and cheerleading teams. He also spent a summer as a strength and conditioning intern for the University of Kentucky football team.
"We have an amazing team of coaches at HWS, including Coach Berry and Coach
Izzy Callen," says Krivicich. "Together, we're excited to lead HWS into the future and keep providing a quality experience to all student-athletes."
