WESTMINSTER, Md.—The Hobart baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth to rally past McDaniel 7-5 to take two of three games from the Green Terror this weekend. Sophomore
Drew Bolduc's single with two outs and the bases loaded brought home the go-ahead and insurance run.
Senior
Ty Gallagher collected three hits, including a triple, drove in two runs and scored twice to lead the offense. Junior
Nate Johnson and first-year
Jack Byrnes each delivered a double for the Statesmen. Junior
Nicholas Franceschi got the win, recording the final five outs without allowing a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Hobart took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, McDaniel got to the Statesmen starter, junior Griffin Snyder in the fifth. He finished the game with 4.1 innings pitched, allowing four hits and three runs. He struck out two and walked two.
- The Statesmen made it a one-run game on Will Jones' RBI single in the sixth.
- Hobart reclaimed the lead on Gallagher's two-run single in the seventh.
- In the bottom of the eighth, the Green Terror used a single and back-to-back hit batsmen to load the bases. Tyler Yohn delivered a two-run single for a 5-4 lead.
- Franceschi came in with one out and the bases loaded and induced a pop out and a ground out to keep McDaniel from adding to its lead.
- Sophomore Christian Petry got the comeback started with one out in the ninth, reaching on a hit by pitch.
- Johnson followed with his double, moving Petry to third. Gallagher was intentionally walked to load the bases.
- McDaniel went to its bullpen, calling on Kevin Hyde to get the final two outs and a save. He hit Jones to bring home the tying run.
- An infield popup brought Bolduc to the plate with two outs. His single to left scored Johnson and Gallagher for a 7-5 lead.
- Franceschi did bring the tying run to the plate when he issued a two-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, but nailed down the victory with a fly ball to right fielder Connor Schmiedlin.
