ORLANDO, Fla.– The No. 34 ranked Hobart tennis won its fifth-straight match this morning as they swept Luther College to complete an undefeated week in Florida. With the win, the Statesmen move to 5-3 on the season while the Norse fall to 12-5.
Hobart dominated in doubles play, winning all three available points. Senior
Sean Pesin and sophomore
Nick Fischer defeated Luke Westholder and Max Leon 8-1 in the No. 1 spot to move to 5-3 on the season. Juniors
Troy Steiner and
Hyat Oyer extended their win-streak to four with an 8-3 win over Lev van Hemert and Eli Young in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, senior
Winter Fagerberg and junior
Rahul Vallabhajosula defeated Ricky Portilla and Louk Rijsdijk 8-3 to remain undefeated in dual matches.
The Statemsen continued to roll in singles play to complete the sweep of the Norse. Pesin won a thrilling match in the No. 1 spot, defeating Westholder 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-4, for his third-straight victory. Fischer also forced a tiebreaker in the No. 2 spot, ultimately defeating Joao Benvenutti 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, to move to 4-3 on the season.
First-year
Achilleas Kousaridis remains undefeated in dual matches this season as he defeated van Hemert 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot to move to 7-0 in his rookie campaign. Oyer and Fagerberg both extended their win-streaks to four as Oyer defeated Leon 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot and Fagerberg topped Young 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5.
Junior
Nick Grosso moves to 5-3 on the season with a dramatic 6-2, 3-6, 10-7, win in the No. 6 spot. He is riding a two-match win streak heading into conference play.
