Herons take on Ithaca in Liberty League showdown Friday

The William Smith tennis team will welcome Liberty League foe Ithaca to Geneva for a conference matchup Friday, March 29. First serve between the Herons and the Bombers is set for 4 p.m. in Bristol Field House.

William Smith is 3-6 on the season and is coming off an 8-1 win over Nazareth on Wednesday. The Herons sit at 0-1 in conference play after falling to then No. 33 Vassar on Saturday.

Ithaca brings a 4-5 record to Geneva and is 0-2 in the Liberty League. The Bombers are coming off a 6-3 loss to RPI on Sunday.

ABOUT THE HERONS 
  • Sophomore Marin Montagne leads William Smith in singles play with a 4-2 record in dual matches.
  • Junior Julia Pida is 3-4 in dual matches including a 3-0 record in the No. 4 spot.
  • Sophomore Maddy Buck is undefeated in singles play and sits at 3-0 this season.
  • Sophomore Haley Levine and junior Isabelle Goings-Perrot are 3-3 in doubles action at the No. 1 spot.
  • Buck and Montagne are a perfect 2-0 in doubles play this season.
  • Pida and junior Natalie Haythorn have chipped in a 2-2 record in dual matches and are 1-0 in the No.1 spot.
ABOUT THE BOMBERS
  • Taylor Crain leads Ithaca in singles play and is 6-3 from the No. 1 spot.
  • In the No. 2 spot, Alys Pop is 5-3.
  • In doubles action, Crain and Pop are 6-3 in the No. 1 position.
  • Sabrina Cheung and Kendall Curley are 4-4 in the No. 2 doubles spot.
SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the 40th meeting between William Smith and Ithaca.
  • The Herons hold a 22-17 edge in the series, including an 11-9 advantage in Geneva.
  • Last time they met, the Bombers defeated the Herons 5-4 in Ithaca. Cheung clinched the match for Ithaca with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-3 win over Haythorn in the No. 4 spot.
